Peruvian Blue Opal Slab 280

  • 9495

Blue Peruvian Opal, also called Andean Opal, is a relatively new material and is characterized by the remarkable blue color. This is common opal (lacks the flashy fire of precious opal) and shows a glowing opalescence created from the deposited silicate minerals during formation. The solid blue material will make impressive gemmy cabs, however,  some pieces of the Caribbean blue are offset with white, black and brown accents creating fantastic seascapes. This opal takes a superb polish and will make impressive finished pieces.

Origin:  Peru

Dimensions: 4" x 1.5" and approximately 6.8 mm thick.  Weight = 41 gr.

Shown wet. Not polished.  Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
