  • 1995

Petrified wood is a fossil that is formed when plant material is replaced with silica, calcite, pyrite, or another inorganic material such as opal that has been dissolved in the groundwater that flows through the sediment. The result is a fossil of the original woody material that often exhibits preserved details of the bark, wood, and cellular structures.  Known for its spectacular colors, this petrified (agatized) wood has been a long time favorite among collectors.  It's bold, high contrast colors make it a perfect display piece or will make outstanding cabs.
