Sagenitic Coral Slab 493

  • 1995

Sagenitic Coral is an interesting rare old rock from Mexico that showcases intricate patterns of gray, white, pink and red.  While it may not be a true sagenite, the sprays of color do resemble the sagenitic agate form.   It is ancient coral that has undergone the petrification process where the original coral has been replaced by various colors of silica.  Having the hardness of agate, it takes a very good polish and makes fantastic cabs.  Note, some of these slabs have numerous fracture lines and normally we would not offer such material. However, we felt that the colors and patterns are so striking and will make such captivating cabs, it would well be worth the effort to work around them.

Origin:  Mexico

Dimensions: 4.5" x 1.75" and approximately 6.9 mm thick.  Weight = 60 grams.

Shown dry.  Polished. Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
