Texas Plume Agate 477
This is a piece from a collection of “old stock” plume and sagenite agates from Texas. The Woodward Ranch and surrounding areas were rich with diverse and highly collectible agates, many featuring fantastic plumes. It is iron/manganese minerals present during development that show as black or red plumes, resembling trees or ferns. Additionally, some of these pieces display intricate golden sagenite needles often associated with minerals found in the Biscuit or Ritchie areas. These robust plumes and detailed sagenite needles, in an agate base, make superb finished cabs which are highly prized by artisans and craftsmen. As is typical of slabs cut in the 60’s- 80’s, some of these slabs are cut very thin, as noted in the description, to maximize the visual impact of the fine patterns. Unfortunately, the site was closed to digging in 2018.
Origin: Texas
Dimensions: 4" x 3.5" and approximately 6.3 mm thick. Weight = 93 grams.
Shown wet. Not polished. Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
