Arizona Shattuckite

Shattuckite is a relatively rare copper compound (copper silicate hydroxide) that is found associated with copper deposits.  The name Shattuckite is taken from the name of the mine from which it was first discovered (the Shattuck mine) in Arizona in the first part of the 20th century, this however is a new discovery.  This vivid blue slab material is not pure shattuckite, as it is incorporated into a rock along with chrysocolla and hematite.  Harder than chrysocolla, it takes a beautiful polish and makes very elegant jewelry.
