Australian Pink Opal Rock Slab 29

  • 1295

Australian Pink Opal was discovered while prospecting around the Mookaite mine. It is opalized radiolarite that was permeated with an iron solution during formation, thus giving it the bright pink color.  The opal is strikingly beautiful when it contains swirls of other shades of pink and white. The glassy quality of opal lends itself to taking a great polish but is brittle.

Origin:  Australia

Dimensions: 2.5" x 1.75" and approximately 7.1 mm thick.  Weight = 30 grams.

Shown wet.  Not polished.  Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
