Oregon Picture Jasper Rock Slab 467

  • 3995

The eastern part of Oregon is known for the prolific jasper deposits found there.  There are many varieties and many look alike and can only be distinguished by the very specific characterizations known to the miners and experts within the field.  When possible, the region or name as given by the person from whom the collection was acquired will be noted, however, it is nearly impossible for me to confidently verify every variety.

CHICKEN TRACKS

Chicken Track Jasper is an old stock Jasper from the McDermitt caldera and is believed to have been fossil worm tunnels. It has scenic patterns, great coloration, and is one of the favorite picture jaspers of Oregon. The supply of this great material has dried up and it has become very difficult to find quality material.

Origin:  Oregon

Dimensions: 3.75" x 1.5" and is approximately 6.9 mm thick.  Weight = 55 grams.

Shown wet.  Not polished.  Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
