Oregon Picture Jasper Rock Slab 474

  • 2995

The eastern part of Oregon is known for the prolific jasper deposits found there.  There are many varieties and many look alike and can only be distinguished by the very specific characterizations known to the miners and experts within the field.  When possible, the region or name as given by the person from whom the collection was acquired will be noted, however, it is nearly impossible for me to confidently verify every variety.

Owyhee Sunset Jasper

Owyhee Sunset Jasper is a highly prized picture jasper from the Owyhee Mountain region , featuring scenic, cloudy patterns in shades of red, gold, and tan. Known as a premier "picture" stone, it is popular among lapidary artists for creating intricate cabs and beads, often depicting scenes that resemble high-desert landscapes.

Origin:  Oregon

Dimensions: 3.5" x 2" and is approximately 7.2 mm thick.  Weight = 71 grams.

Shown wet.  Not polished.  Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
