It is found in numerous countries.  Dumortierite is fairly hard (Mohs scale\u003cem\u003e 7\u003c\/em\u003e) and will take a nice polish\u003cem\u003e.\u003c\/em\u003e It is sometimes mistaken for sodalite and lapis lazuli.
