Technically not agate, but rather a conglomerate of different minerals imbedded in agatized serpentine including cinnabar, chromium chalcedony, blue jadeite, and magnesite. The mix of green and blue colors and the swirled patterns create a spectacular kaleidoscopic backdrop just waiting for an artists’ touch. This material can be considered rare in that it is the only place in the world it is produced, and access is limited by a permit system managed by the government.

Particular to this material, occasionally it contains an inclusion of the very rare mineral Myrickite, named after Francis Myrickite who first uncovered the specimens in 1911 at the Manhattan Mine. Myrickite, a bright red mineral is generally associated with gold. This deposit, the largest and best-known source, produced a very limited amount of the mineral.

Origin: California

Dimensions: 5.5" x 3.5" and approximately 7 mm thick. Weight = 173 grams.

Shown wet. Not polished. Known flaws are shown as white lines in the final picture frame.
