Explore Cady Mountain Lapidary Material
Posted by Kenneth Diede on
The Cady Mountains in Southern California’s Mojave Desert, are one of the most prolific rock collecting areas in the United States. The heavily eroded volcanics produce some of the best agate/jaspers in the world including tube agate, moss agate, plume agate, sagenite and fortification agates and a variety of jasper. It is especially known for producing lapidary material that exhibits bright red, yellow, and orange-colored specimens.
Notable “included” agates are the moss agates from the Lavic collecting site and plume agates, found in a variety of locations that display feathery mineral inclusions often in vibrant reds and orange. SiCat, Hill Zero, and Green Angel Wing are spectacular agates from this area. Other distinctive rocks in our collection are the newly discovered Sui Generis, a finely detailed tube agate, and a few lavender nodular pieces.
